The Reference 36 is a remake of Selmer's famous Balanced Action, and this one is a beauty. It has a HUGE, dark sound, which is better than any modern horn I've played. The action is excellent, the response and projection are unparalleled, and the intonation is great. If you're looking for a vintage sound, but with all the improvements that modern technology is able to offer, then this is the horn for you. It is easy to play, and a joy to play. The matte finish comes standard with the other model in the Reference series, the Reference 54. For a limited time, Selmer offered the Reference 36 with a matte finish also. I think the matte finish is beautiful, and does give the horn a vintage look. I bought the horn new 3 years ago, and it has been great to play. I'm only selling it because I can't afford to keep it--I would love to hang on to it if I could. Its only imperfection is a small ding on the non-keyhole side of the bell. It is shown in one of the photos on this page, and you can see that it is quite insignificant. The horn comes with a solid Selmer case, and the original Selmer mouthpiece.
