Note On The Tone Wood: Carpathian Spruce from Eastern Europe is the stiffest tone wood in the world, and excellent D4 tap tone, with practically no run out. The moisture content is always less than 12%. The grain is tight, due to the rapid growth and low altitude of the trees. The wood is harvested and air-dried by professionals, who have been in this business for many generations. This variety of wood is extraordinary. The specie name is Picea Abies. The quality of the sound produced from this variety of Spruce is incredible. Once you try an instrument made from this wood, you may never be happy with anything else. This particular lot of wood was harvested over 100 years ago... it doesn't get any better than this! Tone Quality The tone quality is just what one would expect from a hand-crafted instrument made from the very best, aged materials. It is well balanced, clear, focused, and rich in overtones... big, deep and warm in the lower register, and clean, open, and refined in the upper register. No wolfing whatsoever. Superb response to advanced bowing techniques. Anyone that knows anything about violins, finds these listings laughable. The category of "Italian Violins" is the most notorious, no one sells an old Italian instrument for less than $8,000+. When you see "so called" Italian-made instruments selling for $300, or less, you know something is really wrong!!!! I would like to know what part of Italy these instruments flew over after being made elsewhere? If you suspect something is not quite right in a listing.... ask the seller to clarify things for you.
